2023 marks 10 years of AWS Certifications.
2013 was the year when AWS launched its certification program.
This small post from (who else) Jeff Barr humbly announced to the world the first certification was launched: The Solution Architect Associate with the other associate exams coming later the same year.

They were much simpler times. Soon after launch by 2014-2015 AWS Certifications had already started featuring in the lists of most sought-after skills and highest-paying certifications in the job market.
The certificates issued may have become uglier (subjective) and the badges may have become shinier through various design changes, but the value these certifications add to individuals and organizations is undisputed.
It is a testimony to the robustness of these certifications that the overall role-based design of the certification program, and the core content of these exams’ blueprint and sample questions still rings true after so many years – standing the test of time through a decade of tumultuous transformation in the tech industry at an unrelenting pace.
While the core role-based certifications held their ground and became the gold standard for Cloud certifications in the tech industry, we saw addition of “specialty” certifications which grew and evolved over the years. We saw some changing with the times (Big Data specialty became Data Analytics specialty, with Machine Learning specialty branching off on its own) while some others being sunset (Alexa Skill Builder specialty) and a few others freshly arriving on the scene (SAP on AWS).
Here’s to yet another decade and beyond of leadership to all in the AWS Community - Cheers!
